Depending on your relationship with your boss you may have mixed feelings about your last week in the office. You may find yourself feeling emotional if you loved the people you worked with or you may be fighting the urge to graffiti the whole place. Either way, your last week is an important one so we’ve compiled some helpful advice on how to behave for the last fateful week in the office.

Try Not to Make Any Enemies

You may have been in the job you’re in now for a long time. Some people you are working with may well be references for your next role so don’t go doing anything rash and upsetting anyone. It can be sorely tempting in the last week of a job to tell a few home truths to those that have annoyed you but let’s stay level headed. Let’s keep calm and…not carry on because that is really overdone but let’s just get on with it. Besides you’re only there for a few more days!

Do Something You’ve Always Wanted to do

Baring the last advice in mind, let’s take this in balance. There may have been something you’ve always wanted to do in your office like take a cigarette break (even if you don’t smoke – why do they get given extra break time when they have a bad habit?) or finally get something out of the overpriced vending machine. It’s your last week live on the edge a bit. Again, don’t go overboard but why not embrace the moment and do something a little zany. You could even tell your office crush that you want to take them for a drink.

Don’t Take on Extra Work

Whilst it is obvious that you should still be working be sure not to take on extra work from lazy co workers or an over stretched boss. They’re still technically employing you but don’t allow them to take liberties, you don’t want to go to your new boss stressed out and overworked! Do the job you’re there for and do it well – this should be the last impression you leave.

Don’t Steal, Especially Clients

Whilst your current boss only has you for a short time, they will potentially have their clients for a long time so don’t go stealing them. Building up a solid client base can be a difficult process so don’t take away someone else’s hard work. If you bought the clients to the company then remember you did it for the company and not yourself. Office stationery is also a no go. A stapler may seem like a perfunctory thing but it has still cost money and does belong to your employer. If you went out to set up a business and had someone behave in a negative way after you had tried to help them then you wouldn’t be too happy either. Treat others as you would like to be treated has never been such sound advice.

Buy Awesome Gifts for your Friends

Let’s lighten the tone here. Hopefully you will have worked with one or two people that you thought were pretty special. Get them something cool to remember you by. Buy the film geek a great rare edition of a script he loves and buy the cat enthusiast a cuddly toy of an internet cat. They’re your mates, so they’ll probably have got you something so why not share the love and give them something cool for their desk for when you’re gone.
